There are almost 1 million people in UK living with dementia. There is currently no cure, and the condition has higher health and social care costs than cancer, stroke and chronic heart disease, taken together. Current thinking suggests that 35% of cases of dementia could be prevented. Our new research project funded by Alzheimer's Research UK on predicting risk of dementia https://lnkd.in/euevCRj, which will be developed at University of Manchester (leading institution) and Goldsmiths, University of London, got coverage from BBC Breakfast on 21st Sept 2017. Daniel Stamate from Goldsmiths, University of London, is leading the Artificial Intelligence - Machine Learning aspect of the 2-year study. One of the research project's outcome is a tool which could predict risk of dementia and identify people with a greater risk to receive tailored help in reducing their dementia risk. The machine learning predictive modelling will be developed in the Data Science & Soft Computing Lab and we will hire a machine learning postdoctoral researcher from Jan. 2018. Interested applicants can contact Daniel Stamate for more details. Manchester will lead the statistical modelling and the medical validation aspects.
Details for application, submission deadline, 23 Feb. 2018.
